Let’s Break It Down, with Plastics

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

There’s a lot of talk in the “green” sphere around plastics these days. So what makes GIVE different? We’re proud to offer the first (and so far, only) oxo-biodegradable packaging in North America. “Oxo-what,” you ask?! Here’s the good stuff: GIVE bottles are totally recyclable.  Additionally, our packaging starts to biodegrade in approximately 10 years, compared to the average 1,000 years it takes others.  Thanks to the Reverte techonolgy, developed in the UK, we’re able greatly reduce the lifespan of our plastic bottles.

Incorporating this technology is just one example of GIVE’s green efforts. To learn more, visit our website, or send us an email!

Luckily (for us, at least!), you don’t have to ace chemistry class to stay in the know. To learn more about different types of plastics and how you can help recycle them, check out this blog post by Earth911.com. Thanks to Twitter friend @stacykinney for passing it along!

The Takoma Park Silver Spring Co-Op
During a recent trip to the greater DC area, we found this Maryland Co-Op on our map. We were pleasantly surprised with the variety of (and number of our favorites!) natural and local foods here. Thanks to Jay and the rest of the staff at TPSS Co-Op for showing us around!

If you’re in the area, stop by — you can tell them we sent you.

GIVE & Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

We’re a little behind, but GIVE had a busy October supporting organizations and events all over the country. With Breast Cancer Awareness month flying past us, we wanted to recap some of the awesome projects we could be a part of – just check out the pictures!

You’ll see Hot Pink Pittsburgh, a premier event with the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust that brought together local philanthropists, dancers and performers. This annual event benefits women in need of breast and cervical cancer screenings.

Komen Pittsburgh’s first Paws for the Cure event was a muddy one, but still a hit!

At Paws for the Cure, we met a few new puppy friends, as well as an employee from 84 Lumber.  They asked, and we gladly agreed to support their employee fundraiser for breast cancer awareness month.

Remember, you can easily support breast cancer research year round with GIVE Hope!
