GIVE for the Whole Planet Foundation

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Whole Foods Markets’ annual Whole Planet Foundation campaign may come to a close tomorrow, but it’s not going out quietly. The campaign helps and lifts over 40,000 women worldwide out of poverty. To increase awareness of the level of poverty around the world, Whole Foods Markets hopes to raise $1.5 million through donations that will go to microcredit foundations that aim to help the poverty-stricken countries.

GIVE recently donated some of our products to these efforts. We’re thrilled for everyone’s efforts, especially one of our partner stores in Washington, DC – they raised over $100,000!

Interested in helping? It’s easy – you can make a donation at your local Whole Foods Market or check out this website to discover more ways to help.

Happy (Belated) World Water Day!

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

Sandwiched in between St. Patty’s Day and “Something on a Stick Day” (28th), March 22nd has been officially recognized as World Water Day since the UN’s designation in 1992.

Can you imagine your life without water? We know we can’t. WWD 2010: Clean Water for a Healthy World is a reminder that almost 1 billion people (or 1/6 of Earth’s population) go without access to safe water. However, World Water Day is also a celebration; 200 million people now have clean water who didn’t just 10 years ago!

Forgot to celebrate on Monday? Not a problem, many are extending the day into a week long H2-blOwout!

ONE WEEK FOR WATER (March 22nd-25th)

ONE and water.org are recruiting our most underused resource—our voice! Donate your Facebook and/or Twitter status to water this week and have your profile pic splashed with a cool blue hue.

World Water Day: global events map

See how people are observing the holiday around our thirsty globe, like the HydroRhythm concert in India, Bartending4Change in Washington, DC, or the World’s Largest Toilet Queue in Nigeria.

If you’re throwing your own WWD event this week, you can add it to the map!

Jacksonville “Rides” for Autism

Sunday, March 21st, 2010

Earlier this month, GIVE helped support the Ride with Me for Autism cycling event, to benefit the Jessica Green Foundation. Inspired by the life and hobbies of Jessica Green, her family and friends coordinated the race to provide assistance and awareness to families of children on the autism spectrum.

The day proved fun for all, with both 62 and 10-mile races, and fun rides throughout the day for the entire family.

You can visit the Event’s site for more details, or the Foundation’s for more information about autism and how you can help. And thanks to our partners at Native Sun for bringing us in!
